3D Printed Air Cooling Nozzle

3D Printed Air Cooling Nozzle
Project Scope
The client wanted to replace the cooling fans on their 3d printer with plastic nozzles that could be mounted using existing screws on the printer head. The nozzles would take air supply from a standard aquarium pump. The main objective was to reduce the weight on printer head to increase performance.
The Solution
Dimensions were obtained from an existing CAD of the printer Ultimaker 2+. Several design iterations were prepared. The designs were analyzed for 3D printability and the most suitable design was selected for 3D printing.

The Process
Step 1: Sourced an existing cad assembly of the 3d printer Ultimaker 2+ .
Step 2: The assembly was cleaned up and all unnecessary parts were removed for clarity.
Step 3: Several nozzle designs were prepared in SolidWorks
Step 4: 3D printability analysis was performed and the most practical design with the least amount of support material requirement was selected.
